“To consult the rules of composition before making a picture is a little like consulting the law of gravitation before going for a walk.”
― Edward Weston
My love of photography stems from early childhood. To be really honest, it's probably inherited. I have photographs of my family members from the 40's and earlier with the same fervor that we take cell phone pictures today. My grandfather, my mother, and my father all were avid photographers. My grandmother took all of their photographs and turned them into paintings that hang on the walls of my childhood home to this day.
I got my first camera when I was 6 as a Christmas present. I was introduced to photography through the Fisher Price Perfect Shot 110 (with the amazing dual eye pieces). I remember being allocated limited amounts of film per diem because I was a little too trigger happy with a tenuous eye for composition at the best.
By the time I was in middle school (and several cameras later) I had been given a digital camera, an Olympus C-700, a glorious introduction to the world of digital. I worked my first wedding on this camera, and I sincerely apologize for not being smarter and using a film camera at the time.
I've poured my soul into different types of photography ranging from macro to landscapes to portraits and everything in between. I've studied dozens of books and magazines dating back to the 70's trying to understand optics. It's been a true honor to have a supporting spouse and family that lets me test all of my latest theories on them.
But after a time I realized that I was happiest when I was working with my clients. Everyone has a vision of what they want a good photograph to be. I will strive to listen and learn from everyone I work with and enjoy spending each moment trying to create a work of art that helps everyone remember their lives in a way that truly touches them. vitae, tempor ut, risus.
